Does This Sound Like You?

You might have bought the drill... but you're afraid to use it.

Maybe you have...

Got a shelf sitting in a box because you don't know how to put it up.

Bought a picture but aren't sure what wall fixing to use to hang it

Look at a toolbox and have absolutely no idea what half of it does

Called someone to do jobs that you know should be simple - and spent a lot of money in the process!

Watch YouTube tutorials but still don't feel confident doing it yourself.

If any of these sound familiar, this workshop is for you.

What You Will Learn

Throughout the workshop you will get practical hands-on experience of using different tools and products every DIYer needs to build their confidence and start their DIY journey including:

Get Confident With Tools: Learn how to safely use a drill and other essential DIY tools and understand what each one is actually used for.

Hang Pictures & Shelves: Learn how to choose the correct fixing for different wall types and confidently attach pictures, mirrors and shelves.

Understand DIY Products: Learn about the different products, fixings and materials available and, importantly, when and why you would use them.

Understand Doors & Cabinets: Learn how doors, hinges and locks work

Fix Your Mistakes: DIY doesn't always go perfectly! Learn what to do when something goes wrong rather than giving up or calling someone else.

Who Is This For?

This workshop is designed for complete beginners who want to become more confident around their homes.

It's perfect if you are:

  • A homeowner wanting to become more self-reliant
  • Someone who has always relied on someone else for smaller jobs around your home
  • Someone who wants to learn in a relaxed, supportive environment
  • Someone who has a list of jobs around the house they've been putting off

If you are nervous about coming on your own, many women arrive not knowing anyone else and feeling unsure about whether they'll be able to do the practical work. That's exactly why we created the workshop this way.

You don't need any previous DIY experience. We provide all tools and materials.
Just bring yourself and a willingness to have a go!

Why The DIY Academy?

Martin Glynn, with over 20 years experience as a carpenter, founded The DIY Academy in 2022 and since then has helped people become more confident with DIY through hands-on workshops across Ireland.

The Academy has delivered workshops to thousands of people, with a particular focus on making DIY accessible to women who may have little or no previous experience.

The philosophy is simple: No question is a stupid question. No experience is required. Everyone has a go.

Absolutely brilliant. Martin immediately took the fear out of using power tools and we were drilling holes, building stud walls and doing repairs in no time. I can’t recommend this confidence building one day course enough and I’m excited for the advanced course.
